Hypnotherapy FAQ's
For many people, the word “hypnosis” brings up images of swinging watches, stage shows, or someone clucking like a chicken. But real hypnotherapy? It’s something completely different—and surprisingly practical. We get questions all the time from folks who are curious, open-minded, and maybe even a little skeptical. And we love that. You should ask questions before trying something new, especially when it involves your mental and emotional well-being. So today, we’re pulling back the curtain and answering some questions we hear in our Queen Creek practice—honestly, openly, and with zero fluff.
What is hypnotherapy, really? And how does it work?
Let's start with the basics. Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural therapeutic approach that uses focused relaxation and suggestions to help you make positive changes at the subconscious level. In simpler terms, it helps you change the patterns running in the background of your mind. Think of your subconscious as your internal autopilot—it's the part of your brain responsible for habits, emotional responses, beliefs, and behaviors you don't consciously think about all the time. During a hypnotherapy session, you're guided into a calm, relaxed mental state—kind of like that floaty, peaceful place between sleep and waking. From there, we offer positive suggestions and imagery that speak directly to your subconscious. The goal? To help you feel more in control, more confident, and more aligned with the life you want to live.
Will I lose control or be “out of it” during hypnosis?
Nope—and this is one of the biggest myths we love to bust! Despite what movies or TV might show, hypnotherapy doesn't involve mind control or make you do anything you don't want to do. You're not asleep, unconscious, or in some kind of weird trance. You're hyper-aware—calm, focused, and completely in control the entire time. In fact, many clients say it feels like guided meditation or deep daydreaming. You'll hear everything that's said, you'll remember the session, and you'll be able to come out of it at any time if you want to.
What issues can hypnotherapy help with?
Here’s where things get exciting—because hypnotherapy is way more versatile than most people realize. At Desert Bloom Hypnosis, we help clients with a wide range of goals, including smoking cessation, weight loss or emotional eating, anxiety and stress relief, phobias and fears, sleep issues and insomnia, self-confidence, and motivation. If it involves your habits, beliefs, or emotional responses, there’s a good chance hypnotherapy can help. And even if you’re not sure if it’s the right fit, we’re always happy to chat with you to explore your options.
